Ferrer gunning for Grand Slam
Spanish tennis player David Ferrer is looking to continue the good vein of form that he showed at the end of the last season and wants to go one step ahead and win a Grand Slam title. The fifth ranked player in the world by the ATP finished the season off on a high by beating world number four Andy Murray and number one Novak Djokovic at the season ending ATP World Tour Finals before losing to the eventual champion Roger Federer in the semi final stage and according to the player, if he can keep up his form and fitness, he can follow in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal and win a Grand Slam.
Ferrer, who is in Abu Dhabi to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championships that kicks off on the 29th where he will face Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round knows that maintain that same level of form will be hard this time around as most of the players will be acquainted with his style of play but he will do everything in order to get the better of them.
The 29 year old David Ferrer was a part of the Spanish Davis Cup team that beat Argentina on home soil a few days’ back and he knows that this season might just present him the last opportunity to win a prestigious Grand Slam title. Speaking at a press conference, Ferrer said that he knew time was not on his side and he wants to make the most of his current form and try to win a Grand Slam.
David Ferrer also added that he was extremely pleased to be a part of the star studded lineup of Mubadala World Tennis Championships and hopes that he can start the season with a win under his belt.
