Nick Kyrgios has matched into his first ATP 1000 final. He is focused on being the first Australian to lift a Masters series since Lleyton Hewitt at the Indian Wells tournament of 2003.
He would be facing a tough opponent though in GrigorDimitrov.
Kyrgios has been impressive in Cincinnati, defeating Ivo Karlovic, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer. It was Ferrer who gave him tips that helped his fitness level, according to Kyrgios.
“I played him when I qualified for the US Open, and I think his coach met up with my coach [Simon Rea]. They kind of wrote down on a big sheet of paper what I had to improve on. One of the things I know I’ll never forget on the sheet was ‘Learn to suffer.’” Read more »
Former world No. 3 David Ferrer is set to appear at the Millennium Estoril Open after being offered a wild card, according to reports. The Portuguese event is set to happen in early May.
Ferrer is poised to star at the event for players in the ATP 250 category. The Spain international was a rave from 2007 to 2011 before reaching the final of the French Open in 2013. He won the World Tour finals in 2007 and he saw successes in the BNP Paribas Masters and Davis Cup. He is a clay court specialist but he is currently on a poor run.
Ferrer’s career win-loss record is 696-339 but this year it stands at 3-7. His victories have come in hard courts. His appearance at the Australian Open was brief, exiting in the third round. Kevin Anderson saw him off in straight sets in Barcelona but he is relentless. Read more »
David Ferrer, 34, recently addressed his lack of a grand slam title.
Having had an astonishing career on the court so far, the talented sportsman hinted that the main reason he has not won any grand slam title was simply because he doesn’t “deserve” it.
In a recent interview, the player was quoted to have said: “I don’t have a grand slam because I don’t deserve one. Despite not having the much coveted title the player does not believe his career will be less impressive if he fails to attain the grand slam in his forthcoming years.
This comes as no surprise as ferrer has had a really outstanding career and boasts of victories in several games. He possesses a staggering 685 singles wins, ranks 13 in the all-time victory list, and yet throughout his successful 16-year career the grand slam title still proves elusive.
In the history of the game, not very many players surpasses David Ferrer in the number of single games won. In fact, only three active players; Roger Federer with 742 wins, Rafael Nadal with 804 wins and Novak Djokovic with 1080, have won more singles than the tennis star. The closest that the talented sports man has come to bagging a major event was in 2013 when he reached the French open final but lost that showdown to a ferocious Rafael Nadal, a fellow Davis cup teammate.

In the Australian Open this year David Ferrer is being considered as an unlucky player.
He is a great player, but being one of the big four in the top numbers is tough and that is what makes it difficult for him to win a well deserved title. Many feel that if he had been born at a different time he would probably have won a few Grand Slam titles by now. However, with the big four names who are his contemporaries, Rafael Nadal,
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray, it has been difficult for him. The loss that he had last Wednesday in the quarterfinals stands testimony for that.
He has been deterred by injury as well as other issues that have been out of the game. However, though he has been able to claim titles and victories that could have been his, the hard work that he puts in his games do not go unnoticed. The Spaniard was unable to go through to the semi finals. He lost out to Andy Murray who is now second seeded in the world titles. However, among the best players in Grand Slam he has been among the top 16. He even reached the finals, which makes it commendable for him, the way he has stuck around and persevered. Read more »
David Ferrer remained in good form right throughout 2015 winning as many as five singles title on the way and ending the season as the no. 8 player in the world.
It was one of his better runs in the recent times and he reckons most of the credit for that has to go to his coaching staff and the trainers.
“My team deserves a lot of praise for the way they have gone about their job, the coach as well as the other people associated with me. Their contribution has been immense. I don’t think without the work that they have done, it would have been possible for me to stand where I currently stand in the rankings.” said the 33-year old talking to a newspaper last evening.
Ferrer’s compatriot Rafael Nadal, however, did not enjoy the same amount of success during the year.
Rafa, who is one of the all time greats and quite easily the best player that Spain has produced ever, failed to make any significant impact and found himself without any major when the season finished.
It was quite disappointing for Rafa’s fans. Since 2004, it had never happened that he had not been able to clinch even one major in a whole season. Read more »
