Ferrer to Play in Malaysian Open
The Malaysian Open, being held in the capital of Kuala Lumpur annually for the past three years has announced that world number David Ferrer has agreed to be a part of the event in its 4th year, as he becomes the first player from the top 10 of the ATP men’s tennis rankings to play in the fledgling event.
And joining Ferrer for the event will be the highest ranked Asian player, Kei Nishikori, the 18th ranked player in the world from Japan.
Nick Freyer, the director of the Malaysian Open was extremely excited at the press conference as he announced the participation of the Spaniard Ferrer for the tournament, stating that the semi finalist at Roland Garros will arguably be the biggest draw of the tournament and for a player of his caliber to come to the country and play in the tournament speaks volumes about the management and ambition of the event.
David Ferrer also reached the quarter final stages of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and has already won four tournaments this year. The latest US Open odds make him one of the favourites, as he always seems to produce on hard-courts.
Freyer also added that Ferrer, who is also the match win leader for the ATP Tour this year, with more wins under his belt than Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic as well as fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal is set to become the highest ranked player to take part in the event, which is aiming to become the biggest ATP Tour event in the continent in a few years’ time.

Ferrer confirmed his participation in the tournament via e-mail to the press when he was asked whether rumors of him coming to Asia were true a few days back.
